Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen was born on 13 August 1792 at Meiningen, in Thuringia, she was the daughter of George I, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen and his wife Luise Eleonore of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, daughter of Prince Christian of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. She was christened with the names Adelaide Amelia Louise Theresa Caroline.
