Bela Lugosi, Hungarian-born motion-picture actor who was most famous for his sinister portrayal of the elegantly mannered vampire Count Dracula. He originated the role on Broadway in 1927 and reprised it for the 1931 film. His success led to a career in horror movies, in which he often costarred with Boris Karloff.
