The production was not without its share of problems. The country was in the middle of a drought during filming, and the crew had to consider moving to a different location; the rains came just as they were attempting to decide where to relocate.

A little way into Out of Africa someone must have complained and the half of the screen that was out of focus became sharp, the other half becoming slightly hazy. The cinema has long gone. Other than a vague sense that it was boring, that was my main memory of Out of Africa. But, over 35 five years on, I’ve watched it a second time.
In this hunter, she finds a spirit equal to her own, which is eventually the undoing of their relationship. "Out of Africa" is a great movie to look at, breathtakingly filmed on location. It is a movie with the courage to be about complex, sweeping emotions, and to use the star power of its actors without apology.
