The Regency , George's nine-year time as "Prince Regent", which started in 1811 and ended with George III's death in 1820, included winning the Napoleonic Wars in Europe .
George IV was the eldest son of George III and Queen Charlotte. He ruled as Prince Regent from 1811 when his father's illness was judged to be permanent and acceded to the throne in 1820.
