9 de mar. de 2015 · On 9 March 1566, David Rizzio, secretary and (possibly) lover of Mary, Queen of Scots, was brutally murdered in the queen's bedchamber at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. She was heavily pregnant at the time, with the child who would later be crowned James VI and I , and it has been speculated by some that the brutal attack on Rizzio was carefully designed to induce a miscarriage in Mary.
Description. The Italian David Rizzio arrived in Scotland in 1561 with the ambassador from Savoy. He entered the service of Mary, Queen of Scots, first as musician and later as her secretary and close companion. On the night of 9 March 1566 he was brutally murdered in Mary, Queen of Scots’ private apartments at Holyroodhouse.

David Rizzio was an Italian courtier, born close to Turin, a descendant of an ancient and noble family living in Piedmont. There is evidence that David Rizzio was sexually involved with a man. David Rizzio and Mary, Queen of Scots had known each other for approximately 5 years as they had met in 1561, after Mary's return to Scotland, until his death in 1566.
