The House Order of the Wendish Crown was instituted in order to show honour and respect for the special and extraordinary merit of persons who show true honesty in attitude and life.

If their history is counted since Niklot's inauguration in 1129, they ruled for almost eight centuries. There are no records, if and how Niklot descended from earlier Obotrite rulers.
