Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943) is Norway's most famous sculptor. He made his debut at the Autumn Exhibition in 1889, and in the 1890s he established himself as Norway's most promising sculptor. In the early 1900s, he made several critically acclaimed portraits and monuments, of which the Abel monument in the Palace Park, Oslo, is considered his definitive breakthrough.

De meeste werken van Gustav Vigeland zijn te zien in Oslo. Er staan ruim 200 beelden in het Vigelandpark en nog ruim 1600 beelden in het Vigeland Museum.
