The Marquessate of Cambridge was given to Adolphus of Teck (1868–1927), brother of Queen Mary, but became extinct when his son George (1895–1981) died without male heirs. The dukedom was revived in 2011 for Prince William, son of the Prince of Wales, who became the second person after George II in direct line to the throne to hold this title.
