1 de jun. de 2024 · When the Wittenberg line became extinct in 1422, the duchy and electorate of Saxony was bestowed on Frederick I the Warlike, margrave of Meissen and a member of the house of Wettin, and the name Saxony was then applied to all the Wettin possessions, including Osterland (the area around Leipzig) and large portions of Lusatia and Thuringia.

28 de may. de 2024 · Having supported the German king Henry V against his father, Henry IV, in 1104, Lothar was appointed duke of Saxony by Henry V when Duke Magnus, the last of the Billung dynasty, died in 1106. Lothar’s independent attitude, however, soon brought him into conflict with the king.
