  1. 2 de may. de 2024 · The Stanley Cup is named after Frederick Stanley, the 16th Earl of Derby, who was Governor General of Canada from 1888 to 1893. Lord Stanley’s family were ice hockey fans. He donated the trophy in his name in 1892 as a challenge cup for Canada’s best amateur hockey clubs.
