15 de may. de 2024 · The land was given to the first Earl of Douglas (nephew of James) by King David II in 1356, whose grandson Sir William de Douglas became the first Baron, and probably built the original castle. The castle was transformed between 1679 and 1698 into the grand building seen today.

27 de may. de 2024 · Tantallon Castle was constructed in the mid-14th century by William Douglas, around the time he became the first Earl of Douglas in 1358. The Douglases were one of the most powerful families in Scotland, and their influence only grew over the following decades.
30 de may. de 2024 · In July 1484 Albany once again invaded Scotland, this time with a small force with the long-exiled James Douglas, 9th Earl of Douglas. The Battle of Lochmaben ensued, where the invasion was defeated, Douglas was captured, while Albany fled south again.
