Hace 2 días · John Pitt, 2nd Earl of Chatham, son of the 1st Earl and elder brother of William Pitt the younger, was born in 1756. He entered the army, and served as a subaltern during the siege of Gibraltar in 1779–83. In 1788 he joined his brother's ministry as first lord of the admiralty, and held office until the end of 1794.
