  1. 21 de may. de 2024 · Edward Seymour (d. 1621) was followed by his grandson William (d. 1660), created marquess of Hertford in 1641 and duke of Somerset shortly before his death, and William's son, William (d. 1671). John Seymour, uncle and heir to the last, died childless in 1675 when the manor passed to his sister Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Bruce, earl of Ailesbury.

  2. Hace 6 días · The estate passed, with Moorland manor in North Petherton, to Sir John Seymour, and from him to his son Edward, duke of Somerset. (fn. 157) On the duke's attainder and execution in 1552 his son John claimed the manor as the inheritance of his mother, the duke's first wife.

(fn. 43) In 1553, during the minority of Edward's son, Edward, earl of Hertford (d. 1621), the custody of the manor was granted to John Dudley, earl of Warwick, but it was confirmed to the heir in 1581–2.

  5. 6 de may. de 2024 · The following day on 4th May 1471 the military commander of the Lancastrians Edmund Beaufort 4th Duke of Somerset deployed his army of around 6,000 men south of Tewkesbury Abbey. Somerset led the right wing, Lord Wenlock and Edward Prince of Wales the centre and John Courtenay 15th Earl of Devon the left.
