The enquiry was to be made by twelve lawful men of the hundred and four lawful men of every township (villata) in it.

The church and village lie at the junction of three roads, one running south-east to join the Chichester-Arundel road, the second going south-west, and the third north to meet Stane Street in Eartham Woods, which occupy the point of the triangle.
