23 de may. de 2024 · Lord William Howard, who had property here from the spoils of Chertsey Abbey, resided near at hand in Bookham, and was created Lord Howard of Effingham. The most interesting side of the place, however, historically, is in connexion with the social history of England.
14 de may. de 2024 · Katherine Carey was the daughter of Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon of Hunsdon and Ann Morgan.1,3 She married Charles Howard, 1st Earl of Nottingham, son of William Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Effingham and Margaret Gamage, circa July 1563.4 She died on 25 March 1603. Her married name became Howard.

22 de may. de 2024 · The Spanish lost, however, as a result of bad weather on the English Channel, poor planning and logistics, and the skills of Sir Francis Drake and Charles Howard, the second Baron Howard of Effingham (later first Earl of Nottingham). While Elizabeth declined physically with age, her running of the country continued to benefit her people.

10 de may. de 2024 · Charles Howard, Earl of Nottingham, Baron Howard of Effingham (1536-1624) was a cousin of Anne Boleyn. His grandfather was the great-grandfather of Elizabeth I. He was one of her most influential advisors. In 1585 he became Lord High Admiral of the fleet that was built for the upcoming battle with Spain.
