The first two major league perfect games, and the only two of the premodern era, were thrown in 1880, five days apart.

Ad Halladay’s second season in Philadelphia may not have featured as many signature moments, but it might have been the best in his Cooperstown-bound career; he set new career-best marks in terms of ERA (2.35), FIP (2.20) and fWAR (8.7).
