11 de jun. de 2024 · The Memphis Belle, assigned to the 91st Bombardment Group (Heavy), 324th Bomb Squadron (Heavy), was only the second B-17 to survive such a feat. To celebrate and preserve its legacy, the aircraft was withdrawn from combat and returned to the United States for a publicity tour.

The crew and the plane were brought home and became the stars of a War Bond Tour and Hollywood war propaganda film called "Memphis Belle". The city of Memphis later purchased and put it in an open-air memorial.
