With her distinctive mezzo-soprano sound, she was a popular singer of blue-eyed soul, pop and dramatic ballads, with French chanson, country, and jazz in her repertoire.

Her blue-eyed-soul styled pop singing brought her many hits both in her native U.K. and in the United States including “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me” and “Son of a Preacher Man”. This culminated in perhaps her most famous record: Dusty In Memphis which is still critically acclaimed today.
