Hace 6 días · Although Bellow had recently won the Nobel Prize for Literature, it was not the style or quality of his writing that grabbed me. Instead, it was a I won’t claim it’s a great book, but Saul Bellow’s debut novel, Dangling Man (1944), made quite an impression when I first read it over forty years ago.

I hope to complete this series, and the latter half of Bellow’s oeuvre contains more novellas which I can probably get through relatively quickly, but my original project of reading all of Bellow’s books in 2024 will probably be a bust.

They are portrayed as problems – children who have learning problems and do not have feelings, rapists, murderers and thieves – who only disturb the good order of society.
