It made sense, as the only thing keeping Captain Beefheart from commercial success was the production, for he had the songs, song titles, wings on Singabus and a Magic Band.

My guess would be Eddie started to get more actively involved in the production/engineering/mixing side of things and taking more control over the bands sound. My guess is, at that time, Ted Templeman and Donn Landee were firmly in control of how the band sounded.
