26 de jun. de 2024 · Biography. Robert II (1316–1390), king of Scots, was the son of Walter Stewart, hereditary Steward of Scotland (died 9 April 1326) and Marjory Bruce, daughter of Robert I. Walter and Marjory (died 25 March 1317 x 24 March 1318) were married shortly after 27 April 1315 and Robert is likely to have been born early in 1316.

10 de jun. de 2024 · On his arrival, Walter sided with David I, King of Scotland, in the claim of his daughter, Matilda, to the English throne on the death of Henry V. For his support, David named Walter the High Steward of Scotland, the title to be bequeathed to his heirs and assigns.

Educated with James VI under George Buchanan, he was prior of Blantyre, Keeper of the Privy Seal of Scotland from 1582 to 1596, an Extraordinary Lord of Session from 1593, an "Octavian" from 1596, Lord High Treasurer of Scotland from 1596 to 1599.
