The way I see it, you can make a commonplace about any goddamn thing you want. Frogs, croquet, football, water bottles. Honestly anything. The caveat of it is filling up the book with the information needed. I currently have a biology commonplace book I’m working on because I love the subject.

3 de may. de 2024 · Commonplace books are meant to compound thoughts and information from sources other than the self. Of course, if it was an interesting event or an epiphany experienced by the self, it should be included as a personal anecdote to preserve for later reflection.

I use John Locke's genius index method which is very simple and easy to use. I like to tag entries with more than one label to increase my chances of finding it in the future.
I heard the term “commonplace book” for the first time only three days ago. But it turns out I’ve been keeping small notebooks for years. Random stuff, lists of things, books to read, notes from books I’ve read, etc So maybe they’ve been commonplace books all along.
