Wallace was not the sole leader of the Scottish resistance, and in fact might have been the junior partner in an alliance with a wealthier northern noble, Andrew De Moray. Like Wallace, verifiable details of Moray’s early life are minimal.

He broke out of an English prison during the winter of 1297 and promptly started to plan the north of Scotland's resistance movement against English authority. By year's end, Morayshire was under his command, and his men had gained possession of the main castles in the area, including Elgin and Inverness.

Hace 5 días · The Andrew de Moray Project was created to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Andrew de Moray’s 1297 North Rising. Each year in May we rally at Ormond Hill, Avoch in the Black Isle where a new Saltire is hoisted on the flagpole on the cairn which we built and was first unveiled in 1997.
17 de may. de 2024 · The monument sits on Abbey Craig. Craig is the name for a large outcrop of rock. It is said that William Wallace and his right hand man Andrew de Moray stood on this very spot to observe the army of King Edward 1 as it approached from Stirling Castle. You can read more here.

Hace 4 días · Sir Andrew de Moray was Wallace's partner in military options and one of his best friends. He died a week after the battle of Stirling Bridge from wounds obtained there. Wallace never again won a major battle.
