17 de may. de 2024 · The second is Anne Finch, Countess of Winchilsea, who declared in a poem that Aphra was born on “the banks of the Stoure the desolate Wye”. A marginal note refutes any notion of genteel status: Behn was “Daughter to a Barber, who lived formerly at Wye … in Kent”.
Hace 2 días · Anne died in 1593, Thomas in 1595. Their daughter and heir was Elizabeth, wife of Sir Moyle Finch (d. 1614). In 1623, in return for the surrender of Copped Hall, she was created Viscountess Maidstone, and in 1628 she became Countess of Winchilsea. On her death in 1633 her son Thomas Finch inherited as Earl of Winchilsea.

24 de may. de 2024 · Elizabeth daughter and heir of Sir Thomas Heneage, whom she succeeded in 1595, was the wife of Sir Moyle Finch, with whom she made settlements of Ravenstone in 1596 and 1606. She survived her husband, who died in 1614, by twenty years, and was created Viscountess Maidstone in 1623 and Countess of Winchilsea in 1628.
