Curzon-Howe, 1st Earl Howe, developed the estate, then disparaged as 'a cold bleak hill', in the 1840s. The ancient mansion was demolished during the siege of Chester and was afterwards replaced by a farmhouse. Earl's Eye.

Hace 6 días · In 1766 Assheton Curzon had married (as his second wife) Dorothy, sister of Richard, first Earl Grosvenor. Having been created Baron Curzon of Penn in 1794 and raised to a viscountcy in 1802, he died at No. 66 Brook Street in March 1820, aged ninety-two.
19 de may. de 2024 · This Ralph Assheton, second baronet, died in 1716, leaving three daughters as co-heirs. Mary, the second, married Sir Nathaniel Curzon of Kedleston, and was succeeded at Whalley by a younger son Assheton Curzon, created Baron Curzon of Penn 1794 and Viscount Curzon 1802.
