The oldest colleges are University College, Balliol, and Merton, established between 1249 and 1264, although there is some dispute over the exact order and precisely when each began teaching. The fourth oldest college is Exeter, founded in 1314, and the fifth is Oriel, founded in 1326.

Professor Carol E Harrison (Balliol 1990) is the co-author – with Professor Thomas J Brown of the University of South Carolina – of a new book, Zouave Theaters: Transnational Military Fashion and Performance, published by LSU Press in April 2024.
Hace 2 días · Professor Philip Torr (Balliol, 1990) is among 25 leading AI scientists calling for stronger action on AI risks in a recent Science paper entitled ‘Managing extreme AI risks amid rapid progress.’ A co-author on the paper, Professor Torr says: ‘The world agreed during the last AI summit that we needed action, but now it is time to go from vague proposals to concrete commitments.

Under the captainship of Amanda Tilley, Finance Bursar, a total of 43 Balliol members signed up for the race.
