[2] His mother Catherine was the daughter of Polish king Sigismund the Old and Bona Sforza of Milan, all of whom where practicing Catholics. [2] Sigismund's older sister Isabella died aged two in 1566. [5]

In 1518, she became the second wife of Sigismund I the Old, the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, and became the Queen of Poland and Grand Duchess of Lithuania.

Ogromne bogactwo sprowadziło na nią ostatecznie nieszczęście. Królowa matka opuściła polską ziemię w 1556 r., po bez mała 40 latach życia nad Wisłą.
