[1] It includes all 87 currently active cathedrals and co-cathedrals. All of these temples are Roman Catholic, and cathedrals of other Christian denominations are listed separately below.
Hace 3 días · Catholic tradition holds that the basilica is the burial site of Saint Peter, chief among Jesus 's apostles and also the first Bishop of Rome ( Pope ). Saint Peter's tomb is directly below the high altar of the basilica, also known as the Altar of the Confession. [6] For this reason, many popes, cardinals and bishops have been interred at St. Peter's since the Early Christian period.

La planta de la catedral se caracteriza por una relativa simplicidad. Una nave única de 20 m bajo las bóvedas bordada por varias capillas laterales. El coro conserva las vidrieras del siglo XIV.
