17 de may. de 2024 · Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquess and 2nd Earl Cornwallis was a British soldier and statesman, probably best known for his defeat at Yorktown, Virginia, in the last important campaign (September 28–October 19, 1781) of the American Revolution. Cornwallis was possibly the most capable British general.

Hace 4 días · The first objective had been essentially met by the surrender of the British army under General Cornwallis at the Siege of Yorktown in September 1781. De Grasse and his fleet had played a decisive part in that victory, after which they returned to the Caribbean.
17 de may. de 2024 · Their colonel was none other than Charles Cornwallis – famous in America as the man who surrendered at Yorktown. But despite this he was an excellent officer that cared about his men and was determined to forge the 33rd into a unit to be proud of.
29 de may. de 2024 · In 1781, Gen. Charles Cornwallis’ troops, journeying to Yorktown, burned down the barracks, with it noted in the documents that a fire was seen in the area shortly after the British moved through.
