18 de may. de 2024 · Portraits of Charles Sackville, 6th Earl of Dorset at the National Portrait Gallery, London. 1638-1706. English poet and courtier. He was MP for East Grinstead (1661-1675), and later 6th Earl of Dorset, 1st Earl of Middlesex, and Lord Chamberlain (1689-1695).
Hace 5 días · The manor descended with the earldom of Middlesex until 1700, when Charles Sackville, Earl of Dorset and Middlesex, sold it to Thomas Webster of Nelmes, Hornchurch. Webster, later a baronet and M.P. for Colchester, sold Copped Hall in 1739 to Edward Conyers, who already held the manor of Epping.

15 de may. de 2024 · Charles Sackville, 6th Earl of Dorset wrote his Satire on a Conceited Playwright about Edward Howard; Dorset called Howard's poetry "solid nonsense that abides all tests." Thomas Shadwell caricatured Howard as the "poet Ninny" in his first play, The Sullen Lovers (1668).
