Hace 1 día · He was born into a Yorkshire family, the sixth child and fourth son of Charles Wood, 2nd Viscount Halifax (1839–1934), and Lady Agnes Elizabeth Courtenay (1838–1919). His father was President of the English Church Union, which pushed for ecumenical reunion, in 1868, 1919, and 1927–1934.

The Woods Despatch refers to the educational reforms introduced in India through a dispatch sent by Sir Charles Wood, the then President of the Board of Control for India, in 1854. It laid down the foundation for the modern system of education in India during the colonial period.
