The genealogy books are split on Childebran's father. The french ones point to a Fulcoald, son of Childebert, son of Theodoric II, a Merovingian. The modern ones and English ones point to Pepin.

A variation on the name Hilderic, from the Old Norse hildr, meaning "battle" and rîcja meaning "powerful, strong." Hilderic was the second-to-last king of the Vandals and Alans in North Africa in the 6th century CE.
