In 1621 schreef Huygens een verslag over zijn gruwelreis naar het lustoord van de Drost van Muiden, P.C. Hooft, gericht aan mejoffer Tesselschade Visser, getiteld Muydsche Reis .

His father, Constantijn Huygens, was a diplomat and poet, and his mother, Suzanna van Baerle, was the daughter of a professor of law. Huygens received a good education in mathematics, languages, and other subjects.
