17 de may. de 2024 · Edward Montagu, 2nd Earl of Manchester, KG, KB, FRS (1602 – 5 May 1671) was an important commander of Parliamentary forces in the First English Civil War, and for a time Oliver Cromwell's superior. [1]
Hace 4 días · It was sold before 1654 to Edward Montagu and was included in various settlements by his descendants, Earls of Sandwich, and their trustees. It is still held by the present earl.

Hace 6 días · They include the 2nd Earl of Sandwich (d. 1688), and his four successors, the 3rd (d. 1729), 4th (d. 1792), 5th (d. 1814), and 6th (d. 1818) Earls. The burial vault is below the chancel, the floor of which is paved with black and white marble.

17 de may. de 2024 · "His elder brother, Edward Montagu, had been appointed Master of the Horse to the queen consort. However, in May 1664 he was dismissed for squeezing her hand when leading her to her coach. He then enlisted on the Earl of Sandwich's ship and was killed in August 1665 in a sea battle with the Dutch near Bergen in Norway.
