Hace 6 días · Ernest Augustus was the king of Hanover, from 1837 to 1851, the fifth son of George III of England. Ernest Augustus studied at Göttingen, entered the Hanoverian army, and served as a leader of cavalry when war broke out between Great Britain and France in 1793.

In that year Victoria inherited the British crown but, by continental Salic Law, was barred as a woman from succession to Hanover, which went to William IV’s brother, Ernest Augustus, duke of Cumberland.
