Hace 4 días · The house of Orange-Nassau was relatively unlucky in establishing a hereditary dynasty in an age that favoured hereditary rule. The Stuarts and the Bourbons came to power at the same time as the Oranges, the Vasas and Oldenburgs were able to establish a hereditary kingship in Sweden and Denmark, and the Hohenzollerns were able to set themselves on a course to the rule of Germany.

2 de may. de 2024 · King Louis XIV of France had already reunited the Principality of Orange with France in 1673. In 1712 he gave the principality itself to Louis Armand II of Bourbon-Conti, who recognised the French sovereignty. However in 1706 he had already given Louis de Mailly-Nesle, Marquis de Nesle (1688-1764) the right to bear the title of Prince of Orange.

The Orange-Nassau family has fled the country, the French troops have reached Friesland in February 1795. With the French as an example the patriots finally wanted to get rid of the Orange-Nassaus and the nobility. Politics were more important than ever in this period.
