Hace 6 días · In 1560 Queen Elizabeth granted the manor for life to Anne Seymour, duchess of Somerset and widow of Protector Somerset, for £13 6s. 8d. a year and payment of the bailiffs and steward's wages. (fn. 51) In 1570 Anne and her second husband, Francis Newdigate, were successfully prosecuted for failing to pay any rent for 10 years.

Thenceforward the manor, like that of Thornhill, descended with the Somerset and Hertford titles until the death of Sarah, Duchess of Somerset in 1692.

A chain of small pomander beads with pearl "true-loves" was noted in the inventory of Anne Seymour, Duchess of Somerset. Philip II of Spain gave Mary I of England a bracelet of 57 little pomander beads.
20 de may. de 2024 · Anne Seymour was married to the most powerful man at the court of King Edward VI, Edward Seymour, Duke of Somerset and as such, ruled supreme, briefly, as the most powerful women in England, but, this precedence was hard won and challenged by another grand dame of the royal Tudor court, the dowager queen Katherine Parr, with whom Anne tried to continually usurp.
