Hace 4 días · King Frederick William II of Prussia commissioned the structure as a sign of peace, envisioning a grand entryway to the boulevard Unter den Linden, which led to the city palace. Construction took place between 1788 and 1791 based on a design by architect Carl Gotthard Langhans, who had studied under the renowned Prussian architect Gontard [1].
The Prussian King Frederick William II, the nephew of the famous Frederick II (“The Great”) commissioned the new gate, which was built between 1788 and 1791. He commemorated it to his famous uncle, hoping to take advantage of the latter’s fame.
