I consider metalcore as post-hardcore with breakdowns and chugging riffs. Metalcore draws inspiration from hardcore and metal whereas post-hardcore draws from hardcore and post-punk. Post-punk draws inspiration from jazz, funk, electronic music, etc, so post-hardcore can be a more diverse genre.
