22 de may. de 2024 · George Byng, esq. his eldest son, by his first wife, succeeded him in this manor, and was of Wrotham. He demised it in lease, for the term of ninety-nine years, to Sir Robert Darell, of Calehill, in trust for particular uses, and died possessed of the fee of it in 1616.
Hace 6 días · The same year Thomas Newport, second son of the Earl of Bradford, was created Baron Torrington: he died in 1719 without issue; and in 1720 Sir George Byng was created Viscount Torrington, which title is still enjoyed by his descendant.

Hace 2 días · Thomas Corbett, of the family of Corbet of Moreton Corbet, accompanied Sir George Byng, Viscount Torrington, as secretary on the latter's expedition to Sicily in 1718–20, and afterwards published an account of it. In 1723 he was appointed chief clerk of the Admiralty, and gradually rose in position, becoming senior secretary in 1742.
