Hace 6 días · George V (born May 27, 1819, Berlin—died June 12, 1878, Paris) was the last king of Hanover (1851–66), the only son of Ernest Augustus, king of Hanover and Duke of Cumberland. His youth was passed in England and in Berlin until 1837, when his father became king of Hanover.

From 1816 to 1837, Viceroy Adolphus represented the monarch in Hanover. During the Seven Years' War, the Battle of Hastenbeck was fought near the city on 26 July 1757.

His accession to the British throne was somewhat circumstantial. Initially, George was not expected to become king, as his elder brother, Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale, was the direct heir.
