In a remote distant part of Somerset, once known as the end of the known universe, Alfred the Great, King of Wessex, at the Little Church in Allar, meets and baptises King Guthrum of Anglia, the Viking leader, after he was defeated at the Battle of Ethandun in 878.

The victory was so complete that the Danish leader, Guthrum, was forced to accept Christian baptism and withdraw from Mercia.
