  4. 16 de may. de 2024 · The Battle of Tudela (23 November 1808) saw an Imperial French army led by Marshal Jean Lannes attack a Spanish army under General Castanos. The battle resulted in the complete victory of the Imperial forces over their adversaries. The combat occurred near Tudela in Navarre, Spain during the Peninsular War.

Lannes was mortally wounded during the bombardment (St Hilaire was also mortally wounded-both later died of their wounds) and as the Austrians failed to attack, Napoleon ordered a withdrawal to Lobau Island. The French lost between 19000 and 20,000, the Austrians 23,400. 'The Danube and not the Austrians defeated us.'
