Born on Anlaby Road, Hull, in 1862, John was the son of a German corn merchant, but he went on to become the wealthiest man in Britain. When he died he left close to £36 million, the largest estate ever in the UK up to that point.

  3. Hace 6 días · In 1927 Lord Iveagh died, and in 1930 the Iveagh Trust sold all the property which he had bought in 1902 to the Audley Trust and Sir John Ellerman, the shipping magnate. In 1933, shortly before Sir John's death, it was again sold, for approximately £1,000,000, to Metropolitan Ground Rents.

  5. Hace 5 días · In 1929 the area still not redeveloped was sold to Sir John Ellerman, a shipping magnate, consisting of nearly 14 acres stretching from a narrow frontage on Fulham Road south to Elystan Place and from Elystan Street to Draycott Place with a block beyond reaching Rawlings Street.
