Hace 2 días · Another fascinating woman associated with Knole was Giovanna Baccelli, an Italian dancer known as "La Baccelli." She captured the heart of John Frederick Sackville, 3rd Duke of Dorset, and their relationship was commemorated with a statue of La Baccelli that once graced the estate‘s interiors before being relocated to the attic.

Hace 3 días · The Croxall branch, which appears to have been the elder, became extinct by the death of Henry Curzon, Esq. in 1639. The daughter and sole heiress of Sir George Curzon, Knt. (elder brother of Henry), who died in 1622, married Edward Sackville, Earl of Dorset, ancestor of the present Duke.
Hace 3 días · Lord Bruce appears as the ratepayer in 1716–26 and the Hon. James Brudenell in 1727–9. (fn. 25) The house was demolished in 1730 to make way for the present Sackville Street. Between the Escuriell Tavern and Sir William Petty's house Robert Chipp laid out the street which is shown on Ogilby and Morgan's map as Ship Yard.

Of Chiddingleigh, Sussex, M.P. for Greenwich; he married Margaret Boleyne, a great-aunt of queen Elizabeth, and was grandfather of the first earl of Dorset.
