He married Mary, daughter of Daniel Finch, 2nd Earl of Nottingham and 6th Earl of Winchilsea, and at his death in 1756 was succeeded by their fifth but only surviving son, Charles Watson Wentworth, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham, the eminent Whig statesman.
