The oldest colleges are University College, Balliol, and Merton, established between 1249 and 1264, although there is some dispute over the exact order and precisely when each began teaching. The fourth oldest college is Exeter, founded in 1314, and the fifth is Oriel, founded in 1326.
3 de may. de 2024 · We are delighted to announce the results of the 2024 Louis MacNeice Creative Writing Prize. The poems and stories were all judged anonymously and, as ever, competition was fierce with a total of 16 poems and 13 short stories entered.

Hace 3 días · MERTON COLLEGE. Buildings. The street upon which the college fronts is called to-day Merton Street. In the Survey of 1772 it has the humbler title of Merton Lane. On the map of 1750 it appears as King Street, the strip at the east end of it, leading into High Street, figuring as Coach and Horses Lane.
16 de may. de 2024 · Merton College. The buildings form the earliest example of collegiate planning in Oxford. The chapel with its glass, brasses and monuments, the ironwork on the hall-door, the bosses of the Fitzjames gateway and the fittings of the library are all noteworthy.
15 de may. de 2024 · Merton College has varied hard-working gardens of herbaceous beds, bulb areas and exotic bedding to produce year-round colour. The college was founded in 1264 and evidence suggests its 6.5-acre surrounds have been in cultivation ever since. Unsurprisingly, the soil here is very fertile.
