23 de may. de 2024 · The last duke, Peter von Biron who ruled under heavy Russian influence founded Academia Petrina in 1775. In April 1786 he purchased the Duchy of Sagan from the Bohemian Lobkovic family, from then additionally using the title of Duke of Żagań.
Which used to be a part of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, known as Duchy of Courland and Semigallia (which ruler, Peter von Biron, stood loyal to the Crown until the very end) and Duchy of Livonia, whitch was called "Polish Livonia". Both of those states had significant population of German and Polish descent alike.
