16 de may. de 2024 · Peterborough, city, seat of Peterborough county, southeastern Ontario, Canada. It lies on the Otonabee River, 70 miles (115 km) east-northeast of Toronto. In 1821 a sawmill and gristmill were founded at the site. The town was named for Peter Robinson, who led almost 2,000 Irish immigrants there in 1825.

For many years, the lock's dual lifts were the highest hydraulic boat lifts in the world, raising boats 65 ft. This was a considerable accomplishment in the first years of the 20th century, when conventional locks usually only had a 7 ft rise.
