  2. 19 de may. de 2024 · In 1360 Edward III granted Hertford to John of Gaunt, then Earl of Richmond, a gift which was confirmed by Edward III in 1376 and by Richard II in 1377. (fn. 19) The manor and vill descended with the duchy of Lancaster (fn. 20) into the hands of Henry IV, and after his death were held in dower by Queen Joan.

Gilbert had been married to Alice de Lusignan, half-sister of Henry III, in 1253 when Gilbert was 10 years old. The marriage was finally annulled in 1285.
